Joyce Manor at Midway Music Hall May 9, 2026

Joyce Manor

Southern California punk favourites Joyce Manor ripped through Midway Music Hall Saturday night with a high-energy set that turned the Edmonton venue into a nonstop singalong pit from the opening chord to the final encore. Back in Canada supporting their latest album I Used to Go to This Bar, the band proved once again why they remain one of punk’s most beloved live acts.

Frontman Barry Johnson led the charge with the band blasting through fan favourites including “Constant Headache,” “Catalina Fight Song,” and newer material from the 2026 release. The crowd barely stopped moving as stage divers and circle pits erupted throughout the packed all-ages show. Despite recent tour setbacks caused by Johnson’s vocal cord injury earlier this spring, the band sounded locked in and energized in Edmonton.

The stacked lineup made the night even stronger. Los Angeles hardcore outfit Militarie Gun delivered one of the heaviest sets of the evening, mixing aggressive riffs with melodic hooks that fired up the crowd early. Washington D.C. duo Teen Mortgage brought raw garage-punk energy and relentless pace, while opener Combat set the tone with an emotional and chaotic performance that quickly won over early arrivals.

Saturday’s show highlighted just how influential Joyce Manor has become in modern punk and emo circles. Their songs may be short, but live they hit with massive intensity and emotional weight. Edmonton fans responded in kind, screaming every lyric back at the band and turning Midway into one of the loudest rooms in the city this weekend.

With a lineup packed with rising punk acts and a headlining performance full of urgency and nostalgia, the Joyce Manor stop at Midway Music Hall was one of Edmonton’s standout alternative shows of the spring.
