Three Days Grace

Rockin' Thunder's first day at Edmonton's Exhibition Lands Racetrack lived up to its name, with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning causing multiple weather delays before the festival returned to full volume. Safety came first as organizers temporarily paused performances due to lightning in the area, but once conditions improved, fans returned in force and the music carried on.

The day featured an all-Canadian main stage lineup beginning with Calling All Captains. Due to the weather delays, the Edmonton post-hardcore band was bumped from the main stage schedule but still performed on the YEG Rocks! Stage, giving hometown fans an energetic set despite the challenging conditions.

Bif Naked

Punk Rock icon Bif Naked officially kicked off the rescheduled main stage performances with her trademark energy and attitude. Her powerful voice and lyrics are as true to life today as the were 30 years ago. Her dedication to her fans had her standing in the mud for over an hour signing merch, CDs, body parts, all while her beloved pup Gracie snuggled up in her carrier.

Her set was followed by Grandson, whose explosive performance had the crowd singing along while mixing hard-hitting rock with social commentary.

The Glorious Sons

Next up were The Glorious Sons, delivering a crowd-pleasing set packed with fan favourites and proving once again why they remain one of Canada's premier live rock bands. Their performance helped build anticipation for the night's headliners.

Closing the evening, Three Days Grace overcame the stormy start with a powerful headline performance that reminded everyone why they continue to dominate Canadian rock. Frontmen Adam Gontier and Matt Walst shared vocal duties as guitarist Barry Stock, bassist Brad Walst, and drummer Neil Sanderson powered through a hit-filled set featuring classics including Animal I Have Become, Pain, Never Too Late, Break, and Riot. Fans who waited through the rain delays were rewarded with an unforgettable finale.

The YEG Rocks! Stage also kept the festival alive throughout the day with performances by Hungry Hollow, Sparrow Blue, Rock & Roll Society (Dasz-1), Stonegate, and two appearances by Calling All Captains, ensuring there was plenty of live music despite the schedule changes.

While Mother Nature tested everyone's patience, Rockin' Thunder proved that even thunderstorms couldn't dampen the spirit of Edmonton's rock fans. Muddy shoes, soaked jackets, and delayed set times became badges of honour as Day 1 ended with thousands of smiling fans already looking forward to another day of rock.
